GOC placed under house arrest over N400m theft by escort soldiers

The General Officer Commanding(GOC), 8 Division, Sokoto, Major General Hakeem Otiki, has been placed under house arrest, Daily Sun reported.

The officer who was redeployed to the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON), is currently being detained at the Officers Mess where he is being guarded by heavily armed soldiers and may be moved to Abuja anytime from now.

When finally in Abuja, he is expected to be grilled by personnel from the Directorate of Military Intelligence (DMI), Special Intelligence Bureau (SIB), and Nigerian Army Corps of Military Police (NACMP).

According to Daily Sun the so-called VIP, allegedly being escorted by the soldiers who happens to be the younger brother of the former GOC, actually connived with the soldiers to steal the N400m as he is nowhere to be found.

Similarly, contrary to speculations that two soldiers have been arrested in connection with the crime, that it is not the case.

What happened was that one of the soldiers in the escort who refused to join with his colleague in the crime was the one who returned and reported the matter to the authorities.

Military sources disclosed that Gen Otiki, who is concluding plans to hand over to his predecessor and newly appointed  GOC, Major General Otolagbe, is said closely being monitored by personnel from the Directorate of Military Intelligence(DMI), Special Intelligence Bureau(SIB) and Nigerian Army Corps of Military Police(NACMP), so he would not disappear.

Also visitors willing to see the former GOC, are thoroughly being screened while those who are perceived to be suspicious are not allowed access to him.

Until his appointment, Ogunlade, was the Field Commander in charge of Operation Hadaran Daji.

Military sources told Daily Sun that none of the soldiers have been arrested so far as the solders made their arrest difficult for the security operatives.

The source who does not want to be mentioned, hinted that by dropping their riffles and other military accoutrements as well as their mobile phones, their arrest may not be possible in the coming days.

However controversy has continued to trail the actual source of the huge sum of money.

While some say the money may have been gotten from proceeds of illegal bunkering, others say the money was meant to pay troops allowances who have have not been paid in the last two months.

However others are wondering how monies meant to pay troops allowance was transported from Sokoto to Kaduna by road.

But all that would be left for the investigative panel who are awaiting the arrival of the senior officer in the coming days.

It was also gathered Okiti’s posting to ASCON, may be or has been reversed because of the matter.

A source, who would not want to be mentioned because he is not authorised to speak on the matter maintained that the money does not belong to the Nigerian Army. The source said: “The Army cannot and will not give any commander that kind of money because they are not the ones that buy the weapons. That kind of money can only be given to you if they want to buy weapons but we all know that buying of weapons and ammunition is not the responsibility of General Officer Commanding, Commanding Officers or commanders.

“Buying of weapons is the sole responsibility of the government. But with what has happened so far the officer must have been involved in illegal mining or providing security for illegal miners after which he gets his cut because from investigations so far, this is not the first time the escort have transported huge monies for their master.”

The source further revealed that “investigations have also shown that there was connivance with the younger brother of the officer, who was acclaimed to be the VIP the soldiers were escorting because he has also disappeared into thin air and he like the fleeing soldiers also left his mobile phone in the car, which has made it difficult for investigators to track him”.

On what the next line of action would be, the source said “right now he is still in his last area of posting, Sokoto and closely being monitored to prevent him from escaping because anything can happen and the army is not taking any chances”.

“He will be there for now where he is expected to do a proper handing and taking over after which he would be brought to Abuja for further investigation and interrogation”, the source said.

UK finance minister vows to quit if Johnson becomes PM

British finance minister Philip Hammond said Sunday he would make a point of resigning before Boris Johnson became prime minister, saying he could never agree to his Brexit strategy.

Johnson is widely expected to win the governing, centre-right Conservative Party’s leadership contest on Tuesday and be named as prime minister once Theresa May resigns the premiership on Wednesday.

Hammond has become an increasingly fierce critic of Johnson’s Brexit strategy — leaving the European Union with or without a deal on October 31 — and would never have expected to remain as chancellor of the Exchequer in a Johnson government.

But the fact that the second-most senior figure in the government is making a point of resigning rather than wait to be moved on in the incoming prime minister’s reshuffle is a significant gesture — and an indicator of the opposition Johnson could face in pursuing his Brexit strategy.

“I’m sure I’m not going to be sacked because I’m going to resign before we get to that point,” Hammond told BBC television.

“Assuming that Boris Johnson becomes the next prime minister, I understand that his conditions for serving in his government would include accepting a no-deal exit on the 31st of October. That is not something that I could ever sign up to.

“It’s very important that the prime minister is able to have a chancellor who is closely aligned with him in terms of the policy, and I, therefore, intend to resign to Theresa May before she goes to the palace to tender her own resignation on Wednesday.”

May will head to Buckingham Palace in London on Wednesday to see Queen Elizabeth II, the head of state, and relinquish her office.

Johnson’s rival for the premiership is Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt, who has said that Britain should prepare for a no-deal Brexit if a deal seems unlikely by the end of September.

Hunt would be prepared to delay Britain’s departure date if a deal seemed within reach but is also prepared to take Britain out of the EU without a divorce deal.

Hunt has not said who he wants running the Treasury should he win the leadership contest.

Gunmen kidnap four Turkish expatriates in Kwara

Armed bandits have allegedly abducted four Turkish expatriates at a local drinking joint in Gbale village, Edu local government area of Kwara State.

The incident, it was gathered occurred at about 10pm, on Saturday while the men were having fun at the local joint in the village.

The names of the abductees are Yasin Colak (33), Senerapal (40), Ergun Yurdakul (35) and Seyit Keklik (25). The victims are said to be expatriates working with Instabul concrete limited in the village.

Spokesperson of the Kwara Police Command Ajayi Okasanmi confirmed the abduction of the expatriates, adding that Commissioner of Police Kayode Egbetokun had dispatched team under operation Puff Adder to the area to commence immediate rescue alive of the expatriates and arrest of the hoodlums.

He added that the efforts of the police is beginning to yield positive results but did not confirm if any arrest had been made so far.

U.S. singer falls in love with Barack Obama, needs his sperm for kids

U.S. singer and reality star, Aubrey O’Day has professed her love for former American President Barack Obama, saying that she needs him as her sperm donor for kids.

O’Day declared in a recent interview that she was now ready to be a mother but would need Obama to be her sperm donor to make her dreams come true.

“I would like to do a show about inseminating me with some brilliant man’s sperm so I can have a child,” O’Day recently told Page Six.

She further said: “Dream donor, Barack Obama.

“Because he’s brilliant, classy, kind, compassionate, witty, gorgeous; everything that a great woman deserves, and that’s why he’s got a great woman.”

The 35-year-old Danity Kane singer has been single since her split from 39-year-old TV personality and disc jockey, Paul ‘Pauly D’ DelVecchio, 39.

She also dated Donald Trump Jr. prior to that and said on the first episode of “Ex on the Beach” — which airs on MTV Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET — that he is her soul mate.

O’Day claim she would have gotten back together with Trump Jr. if he had shown up to compete for her love on “Ex on the Beach,” telling us: “If he gave up what he chose to be with over me and came back, I would jump on and marry him right then and there.”

The 57-year-old Obama, has been married to Michelle Obama, 55, since 1992 and they share two daughters, Sasha, 18, and Malia, 21.

Johnson bracing to become Britain’s Brexit PM

Boris Johnson is expected to become Britain’s next prime minister this week, vowing to deliver Brexit on October 31 come what may, in the face of fierce opposition in parliament.

The former London mayor is the runaway favourite to win the governing Conservative Party’s leadership contest and replace Prime Minister Theresa May on Wednesday.

The postal ballot of 160,000 grassroots party members is expected to return Johnson, 55, as the new Conservative leader over Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt when the result is announced on Tuesday.

Any remaining ballots must be delivered by the Monday 5:00 pm (1600 GMT) deadline. Bookmakers give Hunt around a one in 15 chance of victory.

While Johnson spent a relatively trouble-free Saturday, Hunt, his successor in the Foreign Office, was dealing with Iran’s seizure of a British-flagged tanker in the Gulf.

– Threat to majority –

The centre-right Conservatives command a razor-thin majority in parliament’s lower House of Commons and Johnson’s opponents — both within and outside the party — are keen to scupper his leadership.

Johnson has vowed to take Britain out of the European Union on October 31, with or without a divorce deal.

Opponents of Brexit, and especially of a no-deal departure, are plotting moves against Johnson.

Some Conservatives have hinted they are prepared to bring down their own government rather than accept leaving the EU without a deal.

Justice Secretary David Gauke said he would quit the government if Johnson became prime minister.

He told The Sunday Times newspaper that a no-deal Brexit would trigger national “humiliation”.

The broadsheet reported that up to six europhile Conservative MPs were considering defecting to the centrist, pro-EU Liberal Democrats should Johnson win — leaving him without a Commons majority.

– ‘Right side of history’ –

Pro-EU protesters rallied in central London on Saturday in anticipation of Johnson taking office.

The “No to Boris, yes to Europe” protest saw a giant balloon of Johnson — inspired by the similar blimp of US President Donald Trump — flying outside parliament.

“I want to be on the right side of history. I think anybody who considers Brexit to be a good solution, really hasn’t considered the facts,” demonstrator Tamara Bishop told AFP.

Claire Payton said of Johnson: “He’s going to be absolutely appalling.”

Michael Fowler, wearing an EU-flag beret, added: “He is a chancer that will say anything, promise anything and then do whatever suits him. Which might be completely the opposite to what he’s promised.”

– ‘Good relationship’: Trump –

Trump said he spoke to Johnson on Thursday.

“He is going to do a great job,” the president said Friday.

Trump renewed his criticism of May, saying she had done “a very poor job” with Brexit and predicted that Johnson would fix the “disaster”.

“He’s a different kind of a guy, but they say I’m a different kind of a guy too. We get along well. I think we’ll have a very good relationship,” Trump told reporters.

After a month-long campaign, the winner of the contest will be announced on Tuesday as the new Conservative Party leader.

May will answer questions in parliament as prime minister for the final time on Wednesday before heading to Buckingham Palace to tender her resignation to Queen Elizabeth II, the head of state.

The sovereign will then invite the new Conservative leader to form an administration.

May, who took office following the seismic 2016 Brexit referendum, has vowed to be “absolutely” loyal to her successor.

She will remain in parliament as the MP for her Maidenhead constituency in southern England.

“It is important that we have a Conservative government, particularly given the nature of the opposition we have,” she told the Daily Express newspaper.

The Labour main opposition is riven with in-fighting over Brexit, anti-Semitism and veteran leftist Jeremy Corbyn’s leadership.

“I will be doing everything I can to make sure that we have a Conservative government,” said May.

The 62-year-old added that initially she would “take some time off, have a holiday and adjust to the new world”.

Autopsy report: Lulu-Briggs’ widow hits back at Dumo

Seinye Lulu-Briggs, widow of the late billionaire businessman, has hit back at Dumo, her stepson, over his comments on the autopsy conducted in Accra, Ghana, on Friday.

Benson Lulu-Briggs, a Kalabari high chief and chairman of Moni Pulo Limited, an oil exploration and production company, died on December 27, 2018 on a trip to Ghana, his wife’s home country.

There are conflicting accounts on how he died — one says he died on the chartered flight while another says he arrived Accra alive.

The autopsy report, expected to be released this week, concluded that he did not die a violent death but the younger Lulu-Briggs faulted the process in an interview with TheCable.

He said: “Curiously, one Dr. Lawrence Edusie of the Korle-Bu Hospital, an entirely different hospital and a pathologist who is unknown even to the police as far as the inquest/autopsy of High Chief O.B.Lulu-Briggs is concerned, gets involved and actually performs the autopsy, in the course of which he sends out and prevents the Nigeria police pathologist AIG Akhiwu and the Ghana police pathologist from even observing the autopsy when the autopsy is as a result of an inquest, a serious police investigation involving the Nigeria police, Ghana police and the Interpol. To make matters worse, despite repeated demands for tissue samples by my pathologist Dr Francis Faduyile, no samples were given to the parties for toxicology and histology tests.”

However, the widow has responded to Dumo in a statement sent to TheCable on Sunday.

She said: “I read with amusement, and no small measure of amazement at the audacity Chief Dumo Lulu Briggs, to twist facts in his account of the process of autopsy performed on my late husband, High Chief (Dr) O.B Lulu-Briggs last Friday at the military hospital in Accra, Ghana – as published by The Cable.

“In his false account, Chief Dumo Lulu Briggs, chairman of Platform Petroleum, painted a picture of a clandestine operation in which I developed superhuman capabilities to overrule Nigerian and Ghanaian police officers and ensure that the autopsy was carried out at a ‘strange hospital’ by ‘strange pathologists.’

“Nothing could be further from the truth. The autopsy was conducted under tight police protection the military hospital and the operation was done by Col. (Dr) Attoh, head of the department of Anatomy of the 37 Military Hosiptal and Dr Lawrence Edusie, specialist pathologist at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.

“For the record, what happened was that we all gathered Friday morning, July 19, 2019 at the Transitions funeral home, where the Ghana CID police team invited myself, Solate, Dumo and Senibo, as members of the family, to come and identify the body before its movement to the 37 Military Hospital for the autopsy.

“As we were getting in, the Nigerian police investigation team led by ACP Adaku Uche-Anya joined us in the viewing room to identify the body. Thereafter, the police vehicle led the hearse that carried the body and we left for 37 Military Hospital. The Ghanaian police team and the Nigerian counterparts escorted the hearse into the hospital premises, while the rest of us waited outside until myself and Senibo – the first son of my husband – were invited into the conference room where we met the pathologists and policemen.

“The main pathologist, who is with the military hospital – the highly regarded Col. (Dr) Attoh and Dr Edusie walked in, introduced themselves and asked every other person in the room to also introduce themselves. Then the military pathologist announced that myself and Senibo will go with them to identify the body before the start of the autopsy, which we did.

“He then asked for the pathologists that were present in the room to announce which party they were there for. Two pathologists, Professor Agyeman Akosa (Ghanaian) and Dr. Dayo Faduyile (Nigerian) identified themselves as representing the sons. Professor Adetola Daramola (Nigerian) and Dr. Emeka Nwafor (Nigerian) identified themselves as pathologists that would observe on my behalf.

“The military hospital pathologist subsequently conferred with the Ghana CID team leader and agreed that two police investigating officers each from Ghana and Nigeria would be present during the autopsy. All the parties so identified were taken in.

“After about three hours, they all came out smiling – indicating great satisfaction with the procedure. There were no issues. There were no complaints and we all remained in the premises until the body was prepared again to be returned to the mortuary.

“Dumo’s statement is therefore a lie because he was not even near the pathology conference room during the entire process. He ought to have asked his elder brother, Senibo, who was present, to brief him properly on what transpired. I am now used to his tactics of half-truths and outright lies in his ultimately futile bid to smear me and make me bend to his will.

“And as for the rest of his claims, like he said, the police investigation is ongoing and I know the truth will triumph over falsehood.”

NNPC posts N6.33bn trading surplus in May

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has announced a trading surplus of N6.33 billon for the month of May 2019, a figure which is 13 per cent higher than the N5.60 billion surplus posted in the preceding month of April 2019.

Details of the report contained in the May 2019 edition of the NNPC Monthly Financial and Operations Report (MFOR) released today, attributed the modest rise to the increase in gas and power output which contrasts with the figure for the preceding month.

The report made public by the Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division of the Corporation, Ndu Ughamadu, also attributed the result to the surplus recorded by the corporation’s downstream entities like NNPC Retail, PPMC, NPSC and Duke Oil.

The report further indicated that within the period, the NNPC recorded a total of $580.32 million in export sale of crude oil and gas which is 23.39 per cent higher than the previous month’s figure. Out of this number, crude oil export sales contributed $458.59 million which translates to 79.02 per cent of the entire dollar transactions compared with $342.11 million contributed in the previous month.

The report also showed that between May 2018 and May 2019, crude oil and gas worth $5.97 billion was exported.

In the downstream, to ensure uninterrupted supply and effective distribution of petrol across the country, a total of 2.06bn litres of petrol translating to 66.49mn liters/day were supplied for the month of May 2019.

It was noted that beyond supply, the corporation continued to diligently monitor the daily stock of petrol to achieve smooth distribution of petroleum products and zero fuel queue across the nation.

Within the period, a total of 60 pipeline points were vandalized which represents a remarkable 52 percent decrease from the 125 points vandalized in April 2019.

The Atlas Cove-Mosimi and Ibadan-Ilorin pipelines accounted for 38 percent and 23 percent respectively and other locations accounted for the remaining 39 percent of the total breaks.

The report noted the spirited efforts by NNPC in collaboration with the local communities and other stakeholders to continuously strive to reduce and eventually eliminate this menace.

The May 2019 NNPC MFOR is the 46th in the series designed to provide greater transparency and remove the perception of opacity hitherto associated with the operations of the national oil company.

The new NNPC Management headed by Mallam Mele Kyari has pledged to enhance the current approach to encourage increased citizenship participation and greater accountability to the public.

Ministerial list: Senate gives Buhari five days to submit names

The Senate has given President Muhammadu Buhari till Friday to submit the list of ministerial nominees for screening, failure of which the red chamber will proceed on its two-month annual recess.

In line with its annual calendar, the National Assembly is meant to go on its annual recess on July 26 and resume on September 26.

Buhari, who won election in February and was sworn in on May 29, has continued to delay the submission of the ministerial list, arguing that he will need to take his time to appoint the people he knows.

According to Sunday Punch, the Chairman, Senate ad hoc Committee on Media and Public Affairs Affairs, Senator Adedayo Adeyeye, said on Saturday night, said the red chamber would proceed on its annual two-month recess this week if the Senate did not get the ministerial list by Friday.

He said, “If the list does not come before Friday, the Senate will proceed on its annual recess. We are not giving the president any ultimatum. The schedule of the Senate will go ahead if the Senate does not receive the list. The list is the only thing that can hold us back.”

Adeyeye said the President was at liberty to send the list whenever he pleased and that the Senate also had a duty to consider it in the overriding national interest.

He added, “However, any time they submit the list, we will consider it. It is not our responsibility to put pressure on the President. We can be recalled whenever the list is submitted even if we are already on recess, in the overriding national interest.’’

Corroborating this position, the Minority Leader of the Senate, Enyinnaya Abaribe, said that the Senate would go on its annual recess on schedule.

He had been asked him if the Senate would still postpone its annual recess despite the fact that the President had not submitted the ministerial nominees’ list.

Abaribe said, “The Senate will keep to its schedule.”

Findings revealed that the upper legislative chamber would require at least two weeks to screen the 36 ministerial nominees being expected from the President.

Meanwhile, investigations showed that members of the red chamber were divided over the proposal by the President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, that members might have to postpone their recess to treat Buhari’s lists.

Some senators, who spoke with one of our correspondents off the record, said the idea of postponing the recess was not yet a resolution of the House.

Lawan had two Wednesdays ago said that the President could most likely submit the ministerial list for consideration and approval of the red chamber before the end of that week.

He had said that the executive arm of government was working hard to ensure that the list was ready early enough before the senators proceed on their annual two -month recess.

FAAN suspends aviation security heads over breach at Lagos airport

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has indefinitely suspended the aviation security unit heads on duty when an unidentified man disrupted an Azman Air flight on Friday.

Henrietta Yakubu, FAAN general manager, public affairs, confirmed the development in a statement made available to NAN.

The passengers on board the Port Harcourt-bound flight panicked after the man prevented the plane from leaving the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos.

Yakubu said the suspension of the aviation security unit heads was pending the completion of an ongoing investigation into the incident.

“Following the unfortunate airside incursion at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos on July 19, the authority has suspended indefinitely the aviation security unit heads,” she said in a statement.

“The personnel that were suspended were on duty when the incident occurred, pending completion of an ongoing investigation into the regrettable security infringement.

“The affected officers are the Airport Chief of Security, Mamman Mohammed Sadiku and International Terminal Security Officer, Oni Abiodun.

“Others are the Head of Department Domestic Terminal 2, Kenneth Okezie and Head of Department Domestic Terminal 1, Adebowale Ayodele.”

Yakubu added that Anne Enyinnaya-Egbadon, a FAAN general manager, had been detailed to take charge of security at the airport in the interim.

She said other affected officers had also been replaced.

Yakubu said the current arrangement was aimed at ensuring an efficient and thorough investigation towards the recovery and sustenance of the airport’s proactive security integrity.

Dumo Lulu-Briggs: My father’s widow still has questions to answer over his death

Dumo Lulu-Briggs says the widow of his father still has questions to answer over the sudden death of the 88-year-old billionaire philanthropist in December 2018.

Controversy has continued to surround the death of Chief Benson Lulu-Briggs, whose body is yet to be buried as a result of the quest to establish how he died.

While Seinye, the widow, said the founder and chairman of Moni Pulo Limited, an oil exploration and production body, died aboard a chartered flight to Accra, Ghana, on December 27, 2018, another version said he arrived Accra alive only for the widow to announce his death thereafter.

An autopsy conducted on the body on Friday concluded that Lulu-Briggs did not die a violent death, but Dumo, his son, has told TheCable that the pathologist who conducted the post mortem was not the one authorised to do so and that the police were not allowed to witness the process.

The widow had issued a statement  on Saturday saying she had been vindicated by the autopsy, whose report is expected to be officially released next week.

Dumo told TheCable on Saturday: “You will soon read our full account and the fallacies contained in every statement made by Seinye Peterba Lulu-Briggs since the death of our father. Even the Ghana police are shocked at how she breached their security and took over the corpse of our father. Her initial statement was that when they arrived Accra, my father asked them what the time was and they told him, after which they all came out of the chartered aircraft, the captain even came down, shook hands with everyone including my father and bade them goodbye.

“Now, in an action which she instituted in the high court in Ghana asking the court to give her custody of the mortal remains of our late father and not anybody else, she stated that when they arrived Accra on board the chartered aircraft, they realised that our father, High (Chief) Dr. O. B. Lulu-Briggs was still and completely motionless. The Ghana police are shocked at how they got the deceased out of the Accra airport to deposit in a funeral place inside Accra without reporting the matter to the police and there is no record of such incident either with immigration, airport authorities or the police. On that score, the Ghana police ordered an inquest as the case was one that qualifies for an inquest and an autopsy automatically under Ghanaian laws.

“The police obtained an order from the coroner’s court to conduct an autopsy last Friday, 12th of July, 2019 but Seinye went to court to file a motion for injunction that the body should not be released to anybody and the Transitions Home, where she deposited our father’s mortal remains, would not, based on the filed motion, release the body even to the police. Following all that bizarre drama by a widow who should want the truth established, the Ghana police met with all the parties on Monday, 15th of July where the police stated in clear terms and agreed by all the parties, ourselves and our lawyers, Seinye and her lawyers that the autopsy would be done and tissue samples would be taken for the police and ourselves and Seinye; that the autopsy shall be conducted at the military hospital by Col (Dr.) Attoh.

“Curiously, one Dr.

Seinye was married to Lulu-Briggs “for decades”

He said the commissioner of police in charge of criminal investigations was very furious about how her “painstaking effort was thwarted by some people and an uninvited, unwelcome pathologist”.

“In response to calls by my lawyers, she gave them the comfort that the police would have nothing to do with that autopsy as it ran foul of all Ghana police instructions and even a consent order of the high court in Ghana for samples to be given to the parties. That is comforting and may God continue to bless and reward every police officer who works to strengthen the hand of justice even as we shall appeal for an investigation into what happened and demand an unquestionable autopsy,” he told TheCable.

Dumo said Seinye is yet to explain to the family the true circumstances surrounding the death of their patriarch.

“I wonder what statement she made to the police on how she kept, on the 27th of December, 2018, her husband whom she claimed to have loved inside of a chartered aircraft together with herself and allies for more than  five hours at the Port Harcourt International Airport, with the aircraft doors shut, none going in or coming out? She claims the aircraft didn’t have a landing permit to land in Accra! Really?” he said.

“So what was Vista charter services doing, carrying passengers into their aircraft and keeping them locked in for more than five hours if they didn’t have landing permit to take them? Our father who was 88 years old at the time, and with a tracheostomy tube inserted, would be kept in an aircraft with artificial air for upwards of six hours including the eventual flying time of about an hour to Accra from Port Harcourt with no suction in all that time only for her to later state that as they arrived Accra they realised our father was immobile.

“Well, by the grace of God, all of us shall, led by myself, the chief mourner, give a very befitting burial to our father and husband even as police investigations continue. Seinye is on police bail at the moment and she is always very welcome to perform her roles as wife under Kalabari native law and custom. No one can deny her that. May God keep us!”

COZA scandal: Police invite Timi, Busola Dakolo over ‘falsehood, criminal conspiracy’

The police have invited Timi Dakolo, singer-songwriter, and his wife for questioning over allegations of falsehood.

According to a letter dated July 18 from the special tactical squad of the inspector-general of police (IGP), the police is investigating a case of criminal conspiracy, mischief and threat to life.

The couple were directed to report on July 23 for an interview.

In June, Busola, celebrity photographer, had alleged that she was raped by Biodun Fatoyinbo, founder of the Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA) at the age of 16.

Although Fatoyinbo denied the allegation, the pastor stepped aside for the issue to be investigated.

On Saturday evening, the ‘Great Nation’ singer raised an alarm about men carrying guns arriving at his residence.

The men, who were allegedly from the IGP’s special tactical force, were said to have arrived in a vehicle with number plate BR932KSF.

Sharing a picture of the letter of invitation on his Instagram page, the singer alleged that the officers forced their way into his house to harass his family.

“This office is investigating a case of Criminal Conspiracy, Falsehood, Mischief and Threat to life that your name was mentioned,” the letter read.

“You are kindly requested to interview the undersigned officer on 23/07/2019 by 1000hrs for fact-findings, through DSP. Ibrahim Agu with telephone number 08037864191.”

Dakolo also alleged that a petition submitted by his family in June has not been responded to.

Read his statement below:

“Our lawyers had told us to get ready for this letter. We have long been ready for this type of institutionalized intimidation and dirtiness,” he said.

“Investigating officials have frustrated as a result of underhand delay? Dirty bloggers are fabricating things that cover the truth, going to the IG’s people under dark to force this case to be posted to Abuja?

“Now this: a false investigation in Abuja when our own petition filed since June has not been answered and NO INVITATION HAS BEEN MADE TO THE ACCUSED IN A RAPE CASE????! NOT ONE MOVEMENT TOWARDS JUSTICE??? Rubbishing the legal and criminal system?

“And sending a busload of questionable armed “policemen” and shady men lying in wait to intimidate my wife and children today, forcing their way into my home? Is that how the REAL police deliver a letter?

This is why all the hurting women and families haven’t come out with HORRIBLE THINGS DONE TO THEM???!!

“You picked the wrong one and you picked the wrong time. Nigerians are more awake than you think.

“I will fight for my wife and my children -it’s the promise I made with my life and one I intend to keep. I will defend them from the unrelenting attack of a weak man who thinks he can use money and power to cover for all of his crimes. Like I said, we have since been ready. GIVE US THE FIRE, THEN WATCH ME WORK!
