Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has approved the appointment of Afolabi Olaoye as the new Soun-elect of Ogbomoso.

In a statement released on Saturday, Olusegun Olayiwola, commissioner for local government and chieftaincy matters, said the announcement followed the long-drawn processes specified under the law.

“His Excellency congratulates the new Soun-elect on his ascension to the throne of his forebears,” the statement reads.

Olayiwola said the monarch-elect’s new position requires him to nurture harmony among the people and urged natives of Ogbomoso to cooperate with Olaoye in achieving a successful rule.

Jimoh Oyewunmi Ajagungbade III, the former Soun, died in December 2021, at the age of 95 after he reigned for 48 years.

Afolabi, a Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) pastor, is a descendant of the 9th Soun of Ogbomoso, the late Oba Laoye Orumogege from Baiyewuwon ruling house of Aremo House, Ode-Aremo, Ogbomoso.

He is the pastor of RCCG, Jesus House, Washington DC, United States of America.
