The first lady announced the donation during a visit to the government house in Minna, the state capital, to commiserate with Umaru Bago, the governor, over the recent tanker explosion that claimed over 80 lives.

The explosion occurred on January 18 at the Dikko junction in the Gurara LGA of the state, destroying many properties and leaving several residents injured.

According to the first lady, the donation aims at supporting the families affected by the fire incident.

“We are looking at supporting about 70 families through the governor’s wife, Hajiya Fatima Bago, with each family receiving N1 million to help them settle. The remaining money will cover extra expenses like food items,” she said.

She also applauded the governor’s efforts to rehabilitate the affected families and praised his strides in the agriculture sector.

Bago has also expressed appreciation to the wife of the president for coming over to Niger state to commiserate with the people over the explosion.

The governor referred to the visit as a morale booster for the affected families.

“The visit will serve as a morale booster to people who have been affected by the tanker explosion at Diko junction,” he said.

“We appreciate your widow’s mite for donating N100 million through my wife to support the victims’ families,” he said.

Earlier, the president’s wife visited former military rulers Ibrahim Babangida and Abdulsalami Abubakar.

She was accompanied by Nana Shettima, the wife of Vice-President and Fatima Bago, the wife of the governor of Niger state.
