Dele Momodu, publisher of Ovation magazine and former presidential candidate, has resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Momodu announced his resignation in a letter dated July 17 and addressed to the PDP ward chairman in Ihievbe, Owan East LGA, Edo state.

The publisher said his decision to resign is “simple and straightforward” and that the party has been hijacked by “antidemocratic forces, from within and outside, in broad daylight”.

Momodu announced his intention to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC), the platform adopted by opposition coalition politicians to unseat President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

“I wish to inform you of my decision to resign from our political party, PDP, with immediate effect,” Momodu said.

“My reason is simple and straightforward. Our party has been unarguably hijacked by antidemocratic forces, from within and outside, in broad daylight.

“It is, therefore, honourable to abandon the carcass of the party to them while the majority of us earnestly sign up with the new coalition party known as the African Democratic Congress (ADC).”

Momodu’s resignation comes hours after former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar dumped the PDP.

Abubakar, the PDP presidential candidate in the 2023 election, said the party has strayed from the ideals on which it was founded.

Momodu is one of the staunch supporters of the former vice-president.

In October 2022, the publisher was appointed as director of campaign on strategic communications for the PDP presidential campaign council.

Momodu contested the PDP presidential primary election for the 2023 election, in which he had zero veto.

The publisher was the presidential candidate of the National Conscience Party for the 2011 election.
