Ebienfa said the diplomat died on August 16 during a brief illness.

“Ambassador Coker was a hard-working and dedicated career diplomat who served Nigeria with distinction, commitment and professionalism in different capacities,” the statement reads.

“His untimely death, therefore, is a great loss to the diplomatic community and the nation at large.”

President Bola Tinubu appointed Coker as consul-general in Buea in April 2024.

He assumed his role the following month, promising to improve relations between Nigeria and Cameroon.

Before his appointment, Coker served in various missions, including Conakry, Guinea, and Shanghai, China.

The ministry of foreign affairs condoled with his family, colleagues and friends and prayed for the repose of his soul.
