Wale Edun, the minister of finance, will not be attending due to illness.

In a statement on Sunday, Bayo Onanuga, special adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on information and strategy, said Edun, who is also the coordinating minister of the economy, is indisposed.

Reports suggest that Edun is still in Nigeria but may eventually be flown abroad for treatment.

The Nigerian team will comprise Doris Uzoka-Anite, the minister of state for finance, alongside others, at the meeting, which opens on Monday, according to Onanuga.

He also noted that the World Bank said the annual meeting will feature key elements such as the development committee plenary session on October 16 and the international monetary and financial committee meetings on October 17.

The spokesperson added that the featured events include regional briefings, press conferences, and fora focused on international development, the global economy, and financial markets.

In its Nigeria Development Update (NDU) report released on October 8, the World Bank advised Nigeria to audit the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, increase health taxes, and the value-added tax (VAT).

The multilateral lender also urged Nigeria to ensure that the gains from recent macroeconomic reforms translate into tangible improvements in the living standards of citizens.
