JUST IN: Tinubu sacks service chiefs, appoints Oluyede as CDS

President Bola  Tinubu has approved major changes in the leadership of Nigeria’s Armed Forces as part of efforts to strengthen the nation’s security architecture.

In a statement issued from the State House on Friday, the President appointed General Olufemi Oluyede as the new Chief of Defence Staff, replacing General Christopher Musa.

Other appointments include Major-General W. Shaibu as Chief of Army Staff, Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke as Chief of Air Staff, and Rear Admiral I. Abbas as the Chief of Naval Staff.

The Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye, retains his position.

President Tinubu expressed profound appreciation to the outgoing Service Chiefs for what he described as their “patriotic service and dedicated leadership” during their tenure.

He also charged the newly appointed Service Chiefs to “justify the confidence reposed in them by further enhancing the professionalism, vigilance, and comradeship that define the Armed Forces of Nigeria.”

According to the statement signed by Sunday Dare, the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication, all the new appointments take immediate effect.
