Former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, has once again honored an invitation from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) regarding allegations of misappropriation of funds.
Sources confirmed that the ex-governor arrived at the EFCC headquarters on Tuesday morning, accompanied by his legal team. He reportedly drove himself to the commission’s office in a black Hilux vehicle.
This visit comes in the wake of a recent Supreme Court ruling that dismissed challenges by some states questioning the constitutionality of the EFCC.
Speculation about Bello’s scheduled visit to the anti-graft agency surfaced last week, but his media aides declined to comment when contacted.
In a related development, the EFCC is pursuing fresh charges against Bello in a case being heard by Justice Maryanne Anenih of the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Maitama, Abuja. At the last court session on November 14, the commission requested an adjournment to November 27, citing the ongoing 30-day window for the summons issued to Bello.
Meanwhile, Bello’s co-defendants, Umar Oricha and Abdulsalami Hudu, have been granted administrative bail by the EFCC. The agency also requested additional time for Bello’s appearance in court. Justice Anenih adjourned the case to allow for his formal arraignment.
Further updates on the case are expected after the scheduled hearing.
