The Confederation of All Progressives Congress (APC) Support Groups has called on President Bola Tinubu to inaugurate a Price Control Board that will monitor and contain food price hike across the nation’s markets.

The Director, Media and Strategic Communication of the group, Dr Ahmed Saleh, made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on the sidelines of a stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja.

Saleh emphasised the need for the board to have committee that would monitor and regulate the prices of essential commodities in each state and local government.

According to him, this will ensure stable prices of goods in the markets.

“We use this meeting to draw the attention of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the issues of national importance.

“Nigerians are going through a serious problem of food price hike in the markets, there is no stable price of goods in the markets today.

“Any time you go to the market, things keep skyrocketing unnecessarily in the name of fuel subsidy removal which is inconsequential.

“So, we want Mr President to come up with a Price Control Board where there is a committee in each state, in each local government to monitor and control the prices of goods in Nigeria.

“As it is today, everybody sells things at any price because we lack price control board.”

The group’s spokesman also urged the President to be committed to the plight of Nigerians especially the women at the grassroots.

According to him, presently, women at the grassroots need welfare package like small scale loan to cushion the effect of economic hardship in the country.

He also advised that instead of handling the Federal government’s Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses to the governors, President Tinubu should use the independent bodies to handle those buses.

“We commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for some of his rolled out projects that he had done particularly CNG buses that he had already assigned for operation. So, we are happy and commend him for doing that.

“We are equally saying that instead of handling those buses to the governors, he should use the independent bodies like labour unions for effective and efficient management of those buses.

“We also want the President to set up presidential liaison offices in the states.

“This is important so that when ever the Federal Government rolls out projects in the states, such projects will be coordinated by the presidential liaison offices instead of falling into the hands of governors.

“Let that offices giving the first hand information on how the projects are being executed,” he said.
