The Olubadan-in-council has nominated Rashidi Ladoja, a former governor of Oyo state, as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.

Ladoja was nominated on Monday during a meeting of the council at the Oke-Aremo palace of the Olubadan.

The council is made up of 11 high-ranking chiefs, including Ladoja, who are successors to the throne.

Tajudeen Ajibola, Balogun Olubadan of the military line, said the council unanimously signed Ladoja’s nomination and will forward his name to Seyi Makinde, governor of Oyo state, for confirmation.

The nomination comes after the conclusion of the 21-day mourning period of Owolabi Olakulehin, the late Olubadan, who died on July 7 after one year the throne.

“We will forward the resolutions of our meeting to our Governor, Seyi Makinde. He will now pick a date to present a staff of Office to the new Olubadan,” Punch quoted Abiola as saying.

“The late Olubadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, will be buried this week. So, this week is not feasible.

“He (Makinde) may decide to pick three weeks, two weeks or one week.”

Ladoja, a former senator and Otun Olubadan, is the next in line to ascend the ancestral throne from the civil line.
