Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, on Monday visited the main market in Onitsha, signaling that the state is open for business at the start of the week.
The governor toured various trading zones, including Ose Market, Bright Street, Lagos Line, and Emeka Offor Plaza, among others, marking a symbolic and practical end to the Monday sit-at-home that has hampered the South-East economy since 2021.
Accompanied by key government officials, Soludo interacted with traders, reassuring them that the fear previously used to enforce the shutdown has faded.
The Monday sit-at-home was originally imposed by separatist groups in 2021. Although these groups had issued cancellations, many traders continued to stay home out of fear of enforcement by rogue elements.
“Ndi Anambra are taking back their day, their economy, and their future,” Governor Soludo told the gathering of traders.
