Media personality and actor Denrele Edun has explained the reason for his symbolic self-marriage to mark his 45th birthday.

The entertainer, born Adenrele Oluwafemi Edun, announced the unconventional union in a video posted on social media.

Speaking via an Instagram story on Tuesday, Denrele, who turned 45 on June 13, said the self-marriage was a way to celebrate his 45-year journey through chaos, glitter, survival, reinvention, controversy, resilience, heartbreak and triumph.

“Till death didn’t do us part? So I married myself. After 45 years of chaos, glitter, survival, reinvention, controversy, resilience, heartbreak and triumph, I remain the greatest love story I’ve ever known,” he wrote.

He said he chose to honour himself as the one person who had stayed with him through every stage of life.

The act, he explained, was an embrace of every version of himself that fought to reach this point.

“I am the bride and the groom. And I am marrying every version of myself that fought to get here. Today, I marry the only person who never left my side: ME!” he declared.

Famed for his flamboyant style and unconventional persona, Denrele signed off the post with: “The Bride. The Groom. The Happily Ever After.”
