The Mountain Top Chorale of the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM) has once again placed Nigeria on the global choral music map, winning two gold medals and emerging world champions in the spiritual music category at the 2026 World Choir Games in Helsingborg, Sweden.
The Nigerian choir was the only African representative at the competition, which attracted more than 160 choir groups from 40 countries.
The Mountain Top Chorale clinched gold in the C11 category – Sacred Music with Accompaniment, before going on to win another gold medal and the overall championship in the C14 – Spiritual category.
The feat marked another impressive outing for the Nigerian choir, which first participated in the World Choir Games a decade ago.
The World Choir Games, widely regarded as the “Olympics of choral music,” ended on Monday with the Mountain Top Chorale’s victory providing one of the high points of the competition.
As the Nigerian choir was declared champion in the spiritual category, the green-white-green flag was raised while the Nigerian national anthem rang out across the venue, drawing applause and admiration from participants and guests.
Members of the 53-man Nigerian contingent subsequently took to the podium, celebrating their victory with the MFM anthem, “Olorun MFM, Olorun Alagbara” — God of MFM, the Almighty God.
The latest victory continues the choir’s remarkable performance on the international stage.
At the 2024 World Choir Games in Auckland, New Zealand, which brought together more than 11,000 singers from over 30 countries, the Mountain Top Chorale also won two gold medals in the Champions Competition — C19 (Contemporary Music – Mixed Voices) and C22 (Spiritual).
The 2026 triumph, however, carries an additional significance, coming at a time when Nigeria’s international image is often dominated by economic and security challenges.
Unlike many participating choirs that received sponsorship from their respective governments, the Nigerian contingent was reportedly fully sponsored by the General Overseer of MFM Worldwide, Dr Daniel Kolawole Olukoya.
Olukoya, who has a longstanding interest in choral music, has invested heavily in church music and supported individuals, groups and musical departments in Nigeria.
His backing of the Mountain Top Chorale has enabled the group to compete repeatedly on the international stage and build a reputation as one of Nigeria’s leading choral ensembles.
The latest gold medals therefore represent not only a triumph for MFM but also a rare moment of positive global visibility for Nigeria.
From Auckland to Helsingborg, the Mountain Top Chorale has demonstrated that Nigerian talent can compete — and win — on the world stage when given the resources and platform to do so.
