The police in Jigawa State have arrested a suspected kidnapper while trying to collect N2 million ransom cash from a Point of Sale (PoS) machine.
The suspect – Mohammed Moda – aged 22 years, hails from Burtu village, Ringim Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, disclosed this through a statement.
He said: “On 11/06/2024 at about 1600hrs, Yakubu Bala of Larabar Zango Village, Ajingi LGA, Kano State, reported at Ringim Police Station that unknown persons were threatening him, demanding a sum of Two Million Naira (N2,000,000.00) in cash or else his wife would be kidnapped. They provided a POS account located in Ringim town for the transaction.”
Adam further explained that the complainant deposited Nine Hundred Thousand Naira (N900,000.00).
“Upon receipt of the report, detectives from Ringim Division promptly acted on credible intelligence, stormed the POS shop, and arrested Mohammed Moda of Burtu village, Ringim, who came to withdraw the ransom,” Adam stated.
He added that during a search, the police recovered Seven Hundred and Ninety–Two Thousand Naira (N792,000.00) from the suspect.
