Customers unable to recharge meters as EKEDC’s prepaid platform suffers downtime

The Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) is currently experiencing downtime on all its prepaid meter platforms.

The EKEDC, in a statement on Wednesday, said customers will be unable to recharge their meters due to the challenge.

The distribution company (DisCo) said the service downtime will be resolved as soon as possible as efforts are being made to fix the problem.

“We are currently experiencing service downtime on all our prepaid platforms, which has impacted your ability to recharge your prepaid meter,” EKEDC said.

“We sincerely apologise for this as we continue to work with our technical partners to get it resolved soonest. Please, bear with us.”

Speaking on the glitch, Babatunde Lasaki, manager of corporate communications and strategy at EKEDC said an announcement will be made on all social media platforms when the problem is resolved.

The electricity company serves several locations in Lagos and covers approximately 60 percent of the state.

Some of the locations are Lagos Island, Ikoyi, Victoria Island, Lekki, Ajah, Ibeju-Lekki, Epe, and Badagry.

Others are Ojo, Ajeromi-Ifelodun, Apapa, Surulere, Mushin, Oshodi-Isolo, Shomolu, and Agbara in Ogun state.

According to some affected customers on X, the service downtime has persisted since Tuesday.

Here are some social media reactions on the matter.

A customer on the social media platform said “8hrs later after this post… it is still not rectified. Your customers are literally stranded”.
