Soji Jacobs, son of veteran actor Olu Jacobs, has debunked the latest round of rumour that his father is dead.
The younger Jacobs spoke to QEDNG publisher Olumide Iyanda on the phone on Sunday as the fake news of his father’s death was trending on social media.
According to Soji, “The family is tired of this rumour that keeps recurring every year.”
He added that he spoke with the publisher of one of the blogs that started the rumour on Sunday and the person dropped the phone as soon as he realised who he was talking to.
“We have been getting calls from all over the world from people who want to confirm if the story is true. My mum is on the phone right now answering multiple calls. This is annoying,” Soji said.
Nigerian columnist, Betty Irabor, also debinked the death rumour in a message posted on her social media account on Sunday.
“Olu Jacob is well and alive.. please ignore all rumours of his passing. He is alive please,” she wrote.
The rumours of Jacobs’ death had earlier spread online without official confirmation.
This is not the first time such news about the veteran actor will trend online.
The then spokesperson of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, Monalisa Chinda-Coker, later debunked the news.
In August 2022, there was also rumour concerning the actor’s death.
His wife, Joke, later debunked the news and threatened legal action against those spreading the information.
At the time of filing this report, the family was planning to go out with the 82-year-old to show that he is alive.
