Gunmen kidnap 78-year-old former NLC President

A former President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Mr. Takai Shamang, has been kidnapped from his hometown of Biniki in the Kaura Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

Shamang, aged 78, also led the National Union of Electricity and Gas Workers, now known as the National Union of Electricity Employees, from 1982 to 1989.

His daughter, Mrs. Grace Abbin, confirmed to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that her father was taken from his residence in Biniki by suspected bandits at around 8:00 pm on Friday.

In addition to his labour leadership, Shamang is the President and Founder of the Gantys Aid for Widows, Orphans, and Needy Foundation.
