In the wake of a deadly explosion that claimed the lives of 16 people and left several others critically injured, the Borno State government has imposed a 24-hour curfew across the state.

The decision was made by the state’s Governor, Professor Babagana Umar Zulum, in consultation with heads of the security agencies operating in the state.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, the curfew is in line with the constitutional mandate of the Nigeria Police Force and other relevant security agencies to preserve law and order in the state.

“His Excellency the executive Governor of Borno State Prof. Babagana Umar Zulum, in consultation with heads of security in the state, finds it’s expedient to declare 24hrs curfew in the state with immediate effect,” Daso stated.

The police spokesperson called on the people of Borno State to remain calm and law-abiding, assuring that further developments will be communicated accordingly.

This latest incident is the latest in a series of security challenges faced by the state, which has been grappling with the activities of Boko Haram insurgents for over a decade. The imposition of the curfew is seen as a necessary measure to restore normalcy and prevent further loss of life.
