The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) has approved the elevation of 87 lawyers to the rank of senior advocate of Nigeria (SAN).

In a statement on Thursday, Hajo Bello, chief registrar of the supreme court, said the elevation of the lawyers was approved at the 164th plenary session of the committee chaired by Olukayode Ariwoola, chief justice of Nigeria (CJN).

“The rank of a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) is awarded as a mark of excellence to members of the legal profession who have distinguished themselves as advocates and academics,” the statement reads.

“The meeting further considered five (5) different petitions written against some of the applicants and determined that each of the petitions lacked merit and thus dismissed.

“The swearing in ceremony of the 87 successful applicants is scheduled to take place on Monday the 30th day of September, 2024.”
