Police confirm release of kidnapped ex-Rep Joan Onyemaechi

The Delta State Police Command has confirmed the release of the abducted former member of the House of Representatives, Joan Onyemaechi Mrakpor.

Onyemaechi was abducted on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, in her church off DBS Road, Asaba, the Delta State capital, after gunmen killed her police orderly and driver.

Confirming her release on Saturday morning in a chat with our correspondent, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Bright Edafe said she was released on Friday night.

He said, “Yes, she was released last night”

However, It was gathered that over N300 million was paid as ransom for her release.

Mrakpor, 58, had once  served as Delta State Commissioner for Technical Education.
