Bishop Thomas Dexter (T.D.) Jakes, the renowned pastor and founder of The Potter’s House megachurch in Dallas, Texas, was rushed to the hospital after experiencing a medical emergency while delivering his Sunday sermon.
The 67-year-old preacher, known globally for his motivational speaking and powerful messages, was speaking about the joys of preaching when he suddenly stopped mid-sentence and appeared to experience a medical incident.
In a viral video from the service, Jakes can be seen lowering his microphone and shaking in his seat. As the congregation looked on in shock, church staff quickly rushed to his side.
A speaker then urged the congregation to pray as medical professionals attended to the pastor.
A statement from The Potter’s House confirmed that Bishop Jakes had suffered a “slight health incident” during the service. “He received immediate medical attention following his powerful hour-long message,” the statement read. “Bishop Jakes is stable and under the care of medical professionals.
The entire Potter’s House family is grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers, and support from the community.”
Prior to the incident, Jakes had spoken passionately about the fulfillment he finds in preaching. “I still love to preach. I ain’t tired of preaching,” he had said to his congregation, quoting Psalm 19:14. Moments later, the atmosphere turned somber as the medical emergency unfolded.
