A late evening fire incident was reported at the premises of Radio Nigeria located on Plot No. 35, Ikoyi Road, Ikoyi, Lagos, on Wednesday.

The fire outbreak, which was reportedly confined to the studio section of the U-shaped one-story building, was exacerbated by the flammable materials within the affected area.

The incident, which began around 5:30 pm drew swift responses from firefighters stationed at Dolphin, Ebute Elefun, and Oba Oniru Fire Stations.

The Lagos State Fire Service confirmed that collaborative efforts with the Federal Fire Service, emergency responders, and the Nigeria Police Force played a crucial role in preventing the fire from spreading to other building sections.

Adeseye Margaret, Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, assured the public that the situation was fully under control.

“Our firefighters acted promptly to contain the fire and mitigate further damage. The building’s design and material composition posed initial challenges, but we are committed to ensuring the safety of lives and property,” she stated.

Authorities have commenced damping down operations to extinguish lingering embers while investigations into the cause of the fire are underway.

An eyewitness, Mr. Adewale Johnson, who was present at the scene, described the fire as “intense and rapid.”

He added: “The prompt arrival of the fire service was commendable. They worked tirelessly to ensure the situation didn’t escalate.”
