The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) is set to unveil a new simplified tariff structure for telecommunications operators on December 13, 2024, aimed at streamlining plans, increasing transparency, and enhancing the consumer experience.
This was announced during an interactive session with the media in Abuja by the NCC’s Executive Vice Chairman, Dr. Aminu Maida, who was represented by the Director of Public Affairs, Mr. Reuben Muoka.
Speaking at the session, Dr. Maida disclosed that the new framework will limit telecom operators to a maximum of seven tariff plans. This move is expected to address consumer concerns and dispel misunderstandings surrounding data and airtime usage.
“After extensive consultations with stakeholders, operators will be restricted to seven tariff plans to simplify choices for consumers,” he stated. “This will ensure transparency and provide relief to telecom users while fostering competition among operators.”
The revised tariff announcement, initially scheduled for October 27, was postponed to allow for additional stakeholder input. The NCC emphasized that the new structure is part of broader efforts to help consumers make informed decisions about their telecom expenses while ensuring fair competition within the industry.
