The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control has closed an illegal production facility in the Ipaye area of Iba, Lagos, for manufacturing unregistered cosmetic products.

In an official post on X (formerly Twitter), NAFDAC released videos and images of the operation, showcasing the seized items and the facility’s unhygienic conditions. The agency emphasised that the unregulated products posed a direct threat to public health, especially as they were produced without adhering to safety standards or obtaining the necessary approvals.

The facility was found manufacturing unregistered cosmetic products, posing significant risks to consumers.

After weeks of thorough surveillance, NAFDAC officials executed a raid on the premises, uncovering a large cache of unregistered items. Confiscated products included body washes, cleansing soaps, skin-lightening creams, and children’s skincare items. Authorities also seized packaging materials, suggesting the scale of the operation was aimed at mass distribution.

The agency disclosed that the production site had been sealed to prevent further illegal manufacturing activities. One individual connected to the operation has been apprehended and is currently in custody, assisting investigators with further inquiries.

NAFDAC reaffirmed its commitment to protecting Nigerian consumers from the dangers of unsafe and unregulated products.

“NAFDAC reiterates its commitment to protecting public health by clamping down on unregulated and unsafe products in the markets. ” the post read.

The agency also urged the public to exercise caution when purchasing cosmetic products and to report suspicious or unregistered items to NAFDAC.
