The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun has arraigned Omoyele Sowore, presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in 2023, over cybercrime allegations.
On Monday, Sowore arrived at the force headquarters in Abuja for questioning following his invitation by the police.
The police had invited Sowore for questioning over allegations of cyberstalking, negligent acts, and intimidation.
The police invitation is connected to a viral video wherein Sowore confronted officers who had stopped his vehicle at a checkpoint in Lagos.
Providing an update on the invitation, Sowore said he rejected the bail conditions set by the police, which required him to deposit his international passport and present a level 17 civil servant as a guarantor.
At the court session on Wednesday, Sowore pleaded not guilty to the 16-count charged before Musa Liman, presiding judge.
Marshal Abubakar, counsel to Sowore, moved a bail application for his client’s release.
The matter has been stood down to 3 pm for ruling on the bail application.
Before the charges were read, Sowore told journalists he was unbothered by what he described as “ridiculous charges,” and was indifferent to whether the court granted him bail.
