Guta Meseret Hirpa of Ethiopia was the first woman to cross the finish line. She crossed the line at 2 hours, 14 minutes and four seconds to claim her first-ever women’s title in Lagos.

The 42km race began at the National Stadium in Surulere and ended at the Eko Atlantic City in Victoria Island.

In 2023, the annual event was upgraded by the World Athletics to a gold label, less than eight years after its maiden edition. The organisers have announced that the race will soon become the first marathon race in Africa to be certified with the platinum label.

Bernard Sang won the 2024 event, while Geleta Ulfata of Ethiopia, David Barmasa and Emmanuel Naibei won the 7th, 6th and 7th editions of the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon, respectively.
