Egbetokun debunks Adeleke’s claims linking him to Osun violence

Kayode Egbetokun, the inspector-general of police (IGP), has refuted allegations by Ademola Adeleke, governor of Osun, linking him to the violence in the state.

On Monday, five persons were reportedly killed when supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and those of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) clashed over the attempted resumption of sacked LG chairpersons.

Adeleke accused the IGP of allegedly colluding with the APC to enforce a non-existent court order reinstating the sacked LG chairpersons and councillors.

Responding to the claims on Thursday, Egbetokun said allegations by the governor are “clearly contrary to reason” and “do not deserve our response.”

“I refuse to dignify such absurdity with a response. I believe in challenging distortion of facts; we will not allow distortion of facts against us to go unchallenged,” he said.

“You are all aware of the violence that broke out in Osun a few days ago. What we have done in Osun is to respond to the call of the commissioner of police in the state for reinforcement.

“We have reinforced the command, and we have enough men on the ground to ensure that there is law and order in that state.

“My advice to the people of Osun state is to remain calm and go about their normal business and ensure the rule of law prevails in the state.”
