A Nigerian boxer Gabriel Oluwasegun Olanrewaju has collapsed died in the ring

The 40-year-old fighter was competing against Ghanaian boxer John Mbagunu, known as “Power”, in an undercard bout of Ghana’s Professional Boxing League at the Bukom Boxing Arena on Saturday night when the tragic incident occurred.

A viral clip of the fight captures the dramatic moment as both fighters exchange powerful punches before Olanrewaju suddenly staggers and falls to the canvas.

Initially, the referee and timekeeper thought it was a knockdown, but it quickly became clear that something was terribly wrong.

Medical staff rushed to revive him, but despite their urgent efforts, he was later pronounced dead. Reports suggest he may have suffered a cardiac arrest.

Experienced Boxer with 23 Professional Fights

Born in Lagos, Olanrewaju had a professional career spanning 23 fights, with 13 wins, including 12 knockouts. However, he had faced recent struggles, losing four consecutive bouts before this tragic night.

The Ghana Boxing Authority is expected to release an official statement on the incident, as the boxing community mourns the loss of a seasoned fighter.
