Juju musician Ebenezer Obey-Fabiyi has debunked rumours of his death, affirming that he is alive, strong and healthy.

In a video posted on social media on Tuesday morning, the 83-year-old refuted the claim with one of his popular songs.

Singing in Yoruba, English and Pidgin, he described the news as false.

“Hello, my name is Professor Ebenezer Obey-Fabiyi,” he began before singing “Satan, you don lose o, Satan, you don lose o, you don pafuka. Na lie lie you dey talk, you don pafuka.”

The musician then added, “It is fake news that started a few hours ago claiming that I, Evangelist Obey, have passed on to glory. It is a lie. I am alive, and that is not the word Jesus has written about me.”

The rumour of his death went viral on Monday, sparking mourning messages from his fans.

One of his aides, Tope Olukole, had earlier debunked the claim during a Monday evening interview with TVC.

Olukole assured the public that the music legend was in good health.

“Let’s set the record straight: Ebenezer Obey-Fabiyi is alive and thriving! He recently celebrated a joyous occasion — the 50th birthday of his second child’s spouse,” Olukole said.

“Rumours of his passing are baseless and entirely unfounded. We’re glad to see him active and well,” he added.

The death hoax came barely a month after Obey-Fabiyi celebrated his 83rd birthday.
