Some yet-to-be-identified assailants have attacked the office of the vigilante operatives at Amesi, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State, setting ablaze four patrol vehicles and two operational motorcycles.

It was gathered that the incident, which occurred late on Friday, created panic in the community after the hoodlums engaged the security operatives in a gun duel before setting the vehicles ablaze. No life was lost in the attack.

An eyewitness in the area said, “The hoodlums engaged the vigilante operatives in a gun duel for several hours before throwing an explosive device into the facility, which resulted in the setting ablaze of about four patrol vehicles and some motorcycles.

“The incident happened late on Friday when most people in the community had gone to bed. The hoodlums wanted to gain entry into the facility, and this resulted in an exchange of gunfire between them and the vigilante operatives, which filled the air for several minutes until they were overpowered.”

When contacted on Saturday, the Spokesman for the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, who confirmed the incident in a statement on Saturday, said joint security forces have intensified offensive operations in the area and normalcy has returned.

Ikenga said, “Anambra police have taken over the scene of an attack on the office of the vigilantes at Amesi, Aguata Local Government Area, at the late hours of Friday, April 25, 2025.

“This follows the attack by armed hoodlums on their facility, where, unfortunately, four patrol vehicles and two motorcycles were burnt as a result of the gun duel by security operatives resisting the armed hoodlums from gaining entrance. However, no life was lost during the incident.

“Meanwhile, calm has returned to the area as men of the Joint Security Force have intensified offensive operations in the area.”

He added that the situation is being closely monitored, and further developments would be communicated accordingly.
