Residents of Yargeda community in Bakura LGA of Zamfara have reportedly lynched a suspected bandit after he was captured during an attack.

According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication focused on the Lake Chad region, armed bandits attacked the community on Friday night and abducted three residents.

Makama said the suspect was captured while he and other bandits were leading the victims through a forest along Rini village, where they were intercepted by members of the community.

The publication reported while the other bandits escaped, one of them failed to flee and was captured by the residents.

Makama said the residents tied up the suspect and hung his body on a water tank structure.

There have been increased reports of banditry across the country.

On December 13, some travellers plying the Gurusu-Gwashi road in Bukkuyum LGA of the state were left severely injured after an improvised explosive device (IED), reportedly planted by bandits, exploded.

In October, bandits invaded Zamfarawa village in the Zugu district, Bukkuyum LGA of the state and abducted at least 30 persons.
