The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of the driver involved in a fatal road accident that claimed two lives and involved British-Nigerian boxing champion Anthony Joshua.
According to the police spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi, the driver of the Lexus SUV, registration number KRD 850 HN, is currently in custody while investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the crash. “Investigations are ongoing,” Babaseyi stated on Thursday, 1 January 2026.

The accident occurred at around 11:00 a.m. on Monday, 29 December 2025, near the Danco area along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, one of Nigeria’s busiest highways linking Lagos and Ibadan. The vehicle reportedly collided with a stationary truck, resulting in the deaths of two occupants identified as Ayodele Kelvin Olu, 36, a Nigerian-British citizen, and Gami Sina, 36, a British citizen—both close associates of Joshua.

Anthony Joshua, who was also in the vehicle at the time, was discharged from Lagoon Hospital, Ikoyi, on 31 December after doctors confirmed he was fit to continue his recovery at home.
In a joint statement, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun and Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu expressed deep sympathy to the families of the deceased and offered prayers for the bereaved. They also thanked the public for their support and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his guidance during the incident.
Joshua and his mother reportedly visited a Lagos funeral home to pay final respects to the late victims before arrangements were made for the repatriation of their bodies.
Both governors commended medical personnel at Lagoon Hospital for their professionalism and care, while urging road users to exercise caution on highways.
