The Ogun State Police Command has concluded plans to arrest and prosecute a female TikTok user identified as Mirabel after she allegedly admitted that her earlier rape allegation was false.

The young woman reportedly made the admission during a phone conversation with social media personality VeryDarkMan, popularly known as VDM. An audio recording of the exchange, shared online and obtained by journalists, captured her apologising and acknowledging that parts of her initial account were untrue.

In the recording, she was heard asking for help and admitting she created a threatening TikTok account herself to strengthen her claim. She also reportedly attributed her actions to medication that affected her judgement at the time of the posts.

A police source said a Divisional Police Officer and other senior officers visited the hospital where Mirabel is receiving treatment and that she would be taken into custody after discharge.

According to the source, investigators plan to file charges against her, describing the move as necessary to deter the spread of false allegations.

Mirabel had earlier claimed on TikTok that she was attacked and raped by a stranger who allegedly forced his way into her apartment in the Ogijo area of Ogun State. The allegation sparked widespread outrage online and renewed calls for action against sexual violence.

Reacting to the report, police spokesperson Omolola Odutola said the Commissioner of Police directed the Ibafo Divisional Police Officer to immediately reach out to Mirabel after the complaint surfaced.

She said Mirabel reported at the Ibafo Police Station, where preliminary findings were obtained, noting that the alleged incident fell within the Ogijo jurisdiction. Police subsequently escorted her to a medical facility for assessment before documentation of the case continued.

Due to her fragile condition, she was referred for further medical care to aid recovery and support ongoing investigations.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency said it had contacted a close friend of the woman, who confirmed she had been discharged from hospital. The agency clarified that the matter occurred in Ogun State and had been transferred to the appropriate authorities.

Police say the command is still reviewing the case and will issue an official update as investigations progress.
