The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has announced that its ongoing Ward-Level Enrolment Drive for the National Identification Number (NIN) is progressing steadily across Nigeria. The initiative, which officially began on Monday, February 16, 2026, aims to bring NIN registration closer to communities by decentralizing enrolment centers to ward levels nationwide.

In a press statement released on Tuesday by NIMC spokesperson, Kayode Adegoke, the agancy, emphasized that the NIN remains a foundational and mandatory requirement for accessing essential government services in the country.

These include banking transactions, SIM card registration, passport applications, voter registration, and various social welfare programs. The Commission urged all eligible citizens and legal residents who have not yet obtained their NIN to seize this opportunity and visit the nearest designated ward enrolment center without delay.
