The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has revealed that Rainbow Event Centre has cancelled its booking to use the venue for its National Convention, scheduled for Tuesday (today).

The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Bolaji Abdullahi, revealed this late on Monday via a tweet on his X handle.

Abdullahi said from information available to the ADC, the cancellation followed an alleged threat by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) to revoke the licence of the event centre if it allowed the usage for the national convention.

He said: “After paying all the fees required, setting up for our convention tomorrow, the owner of Rainbow Event centre has just informed us that he has come under pressure from the FCDA and Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike that if he allows the ADC the use of his facilities, his licence will be revoked.”

The spokesman of the ADC, however, said they would be going ahead with the national convention at the venue since they already have a signed contract with the owner.

Abdullahi said: “But we have already signed the contract with him.

“We will hold our convention tomorrow as planned at the Rainbow event centre.

“We will not bow to this creeping tyranny.

“And definitely not to this petty tyrant.

“ADC is rising, Nigeria is rising.”
