Former senior official of the defunct National Electric Power Authority (NEPA), Engineer Kunle Omosebi, was laid to rest in Lagos on Friday, drawing the curtain on a remarkable life defined by diligence, innovation and selfless service.
The late engineer, who passed away on January 24, 2026, at the age of 86, was honoured with a colourful two-day funeral ceremony attended by family members, friends, professional colleagues and associates from across the country.

A solemn service of songs was held in his honour at Grace Hall, MFM Ministries, Yaba, on Thursday, followed by a wake at his residence in Lekki Phase 1 later that evening. The final funeral service took place on Friday, April 17, 2026, at MFM, bringing together a large gathering of mourners to celebrate a life well lived.
Kunle Omosebi’s early life
Born into the family of Pa David Omosebi and Madam Felicia Omosebi of Ilesa, Osun State, his early years were marked by modest beginnings shaped by discipline, resilience and enterprise.
As the eldest male child, he embraced responsibility from a young age—a defining trait that would later distinguish both his academic pursuit and professional journey.He began his education in Ilesa before proceeding to Wesley College, Ibadan, where he obtained his Teacher’s Grade II Certificate in 1962.
After a brief stint in the classroom as a teacher, his thirst for self-improvement propelled him to pursue further studies through sheer determination and self-discipline, earning his General Certificate of Education with strong results in science subjects.
His NEPA journey
Omosebi’s career with NEPA began humbly in 1964 as a clerk in Ibadan. Through grit, perseverance and an unwavering commitment to learning, he steadily rose through the ranks.
He obtained a National Diploma in Electrical Engineering from Ibadan Polytechnic in 1967, followed by a Higher National Diploma from Yaba College of Technology in 1972.
Over the course of a distinguished 35-year career, he served in several strategic roles across the country, including Assistant Technical Officer, Service Engineer, District Engineer, Area Engineer and District Manager in key locations such as Lagos, Ibadan and Benin.
He eventually retired in December 1999 as District Manager (Distribution and Marketing) at the Ijora Business Unit, capping a career marked by steady ascent and notable impact.
Commitment to excellence
Widely regarded as forward-thinking, Omosebi was an early advocate for the adoption of emerging technologies—particularly computerisation—within the power sector during his time.
His commitment to excellence was further reflected in his professional affiliations, as he became a member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) and the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN). He also strengthened his leadership capacity with a management certificate from the University of Lagos.
Life in retirement
Following his retirement, Omosebi transitioned seamlessly into entrepreneurship, founding DOT-K & Associates Limited, an electrical contracting and consultancy firm.
Under his leadership, the company executed projects for major corporate clients, including MTN and Globacom, as well as several industrial firms within the Ota industrial axis, earning a reputation for quality, reliability and technical excellence.
His legacy
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Omosebi was a devoted family man. He is survived by three of his siblings, children, grandchildren and a wide network of extended family members.
He was also remembered for his quiet philanthropy and deep spirituality, often extending a helping hand without seeking recognition or applause.
Friends and associates described him as humble, creative and principled, with a genuine passion for mentoring younger professionals.
An enthusiast of American blues and jazz music, he also enjoyed playing table tennis in his younger years—an indication of a life lived in balance, where hard work coexisted with personal fulfilment.
Tributes poured in during the funeral ceremonies, with many describing him as a trailblazer in Nigeria’s power sector and a man whose legacy of service and integrity will endure for generations.
He is remembered not only for his professional achievements, but for the enduring values he embodied—a life anchored in purpose, humility and an unwavering commitment to excellence.
