The Ogun crash, attributed to speeding and loss of control, involved a branded bus allegedly drumming support for a governorship aspirant and a truck suspected to belong to the state government with “OGSG” inscription.

The corpses of the deceased have been deposited at the State Hospital, Ijaye, Abeokuta, while the injured are also receiving treatment at the same facility, according to a statement by the FRSC spokesperson in Ogun State, Afolabi Odunsi-Oyewole.

Odunsi-Oyewole said, “The Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, Ogun Sector Command, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi, reported a fatal multiple-vehicle traffic collision that occurred on April 18, 2026, at the Onipepeye axis of the Abeokuta–Sagamu route.

“The incident, which occurred at about 5:40pm, involved a Sino truck and an Opel passenger car. FRSC rescue teams responded within seven minutes of the report, arriving at the scene by 5:52pm.

“Ten persons were involved, comprising four adult males, three adult females, two female children, and one male child. Seven persons were injured, including adult females, one female child, and three adult males, while three fatalities were recorded.

“Preliminary investigation indicates that the probable causes of the crash were speed violation and loss of control. The injured victims were immediately evacuated to State Hospital, Ijaye, for urgent medical treatment, while the deceased were deposited at the hospital mortuary.”

The Sector Commander, while commiserating with families of the victims, urged motorists to observe speed limits and ensure proper vehicle maintenance to prevent avoidable crashes.

Meanwhile, in Kano State, the FRSC confirmed that two separate crashes claimed four lives and left 53 others injured.

The Public Relations Officer of the Kano Sector Command, Abdullahi Labaran, said the first crash occurred on Friday at about 10:20pm along the Eastern Bypass at the General Muhammadu Buhari Interchange, Hotoro.

He said, “The crash involved a DAF trailer with registration number MAF 284XA, loaded with animals, goods, and passengers. The vehicle was travelling from Wudil Market in Kano to Asaba, Delta State, when the incident occurred.

“Preliminary investigation showed that the driver lost control due to speeding while approaching the interchange flyover, leading to the crash. A total of 59 male adults were involved: 33 sustained injuries, 24 were rescued unhurt, while two died.”

Labaran added that the injured victims were taken to Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital, Kano.

He also confirmed a second crash involving another DAF trailer on Saturday, which was heading to Lagos State when it lost control at a T-junction.

“A total of 30 male adults were involved in the second crash: 20 sustained injuries, eight were rescued unhurt, while two died. The injured were evacuated to Wudil General Hospital for treatment,” he said.

The Sector Commander, Idris Lawal, expressed concern over repeated violations of safety rules, especially the dangerous practice of carrying passengers in trailers meant for goods and livestock.

He warned drivers and transport operators to obey traffic regulations, avoid speeding, and desist from conveying passengers in trailers.
