The incumbent Senator representing Delta Central Senatorial District, Ede Dafinone, has defeated former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, to clinch the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket in the senatorial district.

Dafinone polled 116,252 votes to defeat Omo-Agege, who scored 3,643 votes across the eight local governments that made up the district .

Daily Trust reports that Omo-Agege, stepped down from the Senate where he served two terms and during which he rose to become Deputy President of the Senate.

He consequently contested the 2023 Delta State governorship election against Sheriff Oborevwori but lost.

Declaring the result, the Returning Officer, for the National Assembly Primary Election Committee Barr Nusa Amagbor, said the exercise was peaceful and conducted in line with APC guidelines.

He said Dafinone scored the highest votes across the eight local governments that make up the district.

He, however, officially declared Dafinone winner after securing the highest number of lawful votes cast.

Responding, Dafinone lauded party members for the peaceful conduct of the exercise, which he said was transparent, free and fair.

“What is my comment and assessment of the election, and what is my overall take? First of all, let me say that the process of the primaries was conducted in a manner that was transparent, open, free, and fair. Delta Central is, of course, a highly political terrain, and I want to use this opportunity to thank all those who supported me throughout our great party in achieving this victory today.

“I will also take this opportunity to call on Distinguished Senator Ovie Omo-Agege to join forces with other members of our party so that we can work together for victory in 2027 across all positions.”

While extending an olive branch to Omo-Agege and his supporters, he urged all factions within the APC to unite ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“I call on Distinguished Senator Ovie Omo-Agege to join forces with other members of our party so that we can work together for victory in 2027 across all positions,” he said.

The primary election results were officially collated by Hon. Dr. Okiemute E. Benjamin, Collation Officer; and announced by Barr. Nusa Amagbor, Secretary of the APC National Assembly Primary Committee; supported by Abimbola Samuel Dart, member of the committee
