The Lagos State Rapid Response Squad has arrested suspected miscreants and hoodlums allegedly terrorising motorists along the Lekki–Ajah Expressway during a midnight enforcement operation targeting criminal elements operating along the corridor.

The latest operation comes months after about 25 persons accused of harassing motorists along the same corridor were arrested in March.

The suspects, described as “Omotaku,” were apprehended during an evening patrol by enforcement teams monitoring activities along major corridors in the area.

Announcing the latest arrests without disclosing the exact number of suspects in a post shared on his X handle on Sunday, accompanied by a video of the suspects, the state Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, said the operation targeted only those involved in extorting, harassing and intimidating motorists.

He added that the suspects included those who allegedly vandalised vehicles when motorists refused to yield to their demands.

He said the squad would sustain intelligence-led operations against criminal elements whose activities threaten public safety and disrupt the free movement of people and vehicles across the state.

“The operation was targeted at individuals who allegedly harass and intimidate motorists, extort money from them and, in some instances, damage vehicles when motorists refuse to yield to their demands.

“The RRS will continue to sustain intelligence-led operations and enforcement actions against criminal elements whose activities threaten public safety and disrupt the free movement of people and vehicles across the state,” he stated.

The Lekki-Ajah corridor has repeatedly witnessed reports of motorists being harassed by suspected touts, prompting recurring enforcement actions by security agencies in the state.
