In a statement issued on Saturday, Samaila Uba, director of defence information, said the incident is being treated as a cybersecurity matter.

Uba said the DHQ has activated “appropriate technical measures” to secure the account and prevent further unauthorised access.

He said efforts are also ongoing to fully restore control of the account.

“Consequently, members of the public are advised to disregard any suspicious, unauthorised or misleading content that may be posted from the account during this period,” the statement reads.

The DHQ said it remains committed to maintaining information security and ensuring that the public receives accurate and credible information on the activities and operations of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

The military authorities urged the public to remain vigilant, adding that further updates would be provided as necessary.

The DHQ also directed members of the public to rely on its official Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp channels for verified information while the issue with its X account is being addressed.
