British-Nigerian businessman and influencer Igho “Tiny” Ubiribo, also known as Denisi or Ego, died at the age of 43 after undergoing a penis-enlargement procedure during a trip to Thailand, an inquest has heard.
Ubiribo had travelled to Thailand with his wife, Danielle Simba Allen, when he underwent the procedure at an unnamed Thai clinic in March.
Evidence presented at Inner West London Coroners’ Court indicated that 40ml of hyaluronic acid and lidocaine was injected into his penis.
Afterwards, Ubiribo and his wife reportedly went for a massage at their Marriott hotel in Bangkok.
He subsequently complained of chest pain and collapsed twice.
He was taken to Sukhumvit Hospital, where he was initially conscious. His condition, however, deteriorated and he later lost consciousness before doctors could carry out a recommended CT scan.
Doctors diagnosed a pulmonary embolism and transferred him to intensive care.
Medical staff reportedly performed CPR for more than 100 minutes, but Ubiribo died in the early hours of March 6.
A subsequent postmortem examination in the UK found cellular material in his lungs that matched the hyaluronic acid used during the cosmetic procedure, according to evidence presented at the inquest.
Coroner Jean Harkin concluded that the cosmetic treatment had caused the pulmonary embolism which led to Ubiribo’s death.
The case highlights the potentially serious risks associated with cosmetic procedures and the dangers that can arise when complications develop far from home.
