The federal capital territory (FCT) police command has debunked reports of abduction in the River Park estate, Lugbe area of the nation’s capital.

Reports of abduction in the estate along airport road, circulated on Thursday, triggering panic among residents.

In a statement, Josephine Adeh, spokesperson of the FCT police command, said the purported abduction was staged by a man to defraud his brother.

“The FCT police Command is aware of the news making rounds about an alleged kidnapping incident at River Park estate in the early hours of today and wishes to state that contrary to reports, nobody was kidnapped in River Park Estate,” the statement reads.

“One Nnandi Agu ‘m’ of Games Village only faked his own kidnap in an attempt to defraud his brother who lives within the said Estate.”

Adeh said the suspect has been arrested and is currently in police custody for interrogation.

The police spokesperson said further development would be communicated to the public.
