Access Holdings CEO, Wigwe, wife, two kids were in US to watch Super Bowl

The Chief Executive Officer of Access Holdings, Herbert Wigwe, his wife, Chizoba Wigwe and two children who died in a helicopter  crash on Friday night were in the US to watch Super Bowl 58, an American football competition.

The chopper transporting the family crashed in California enroute the resort city of Las Vegas.

It was gathered that Wigwe left Lagos on Wednesday to watch the Super Bowl 58. The event will be held on Sunday, February 11, 2024 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

“Wigwe’s wife and two kids also died in the crash. He left Lagos on Wednesday to watch the U.S. Super Bowl.

“One Bimbo Ogunbanjo was also on the flight. Bimbo Ogunbanjo is the former chairman of the Nigeria Exchange Group Plc (NGX) and son of late businessman, Chief Chris Ogunbanjo,”  sources said on Saturday.

He was managing partner of law firm, Chris Ogunbanjo and Co.

Officials from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department were notified of the downed aircraft at 10:12 p.m. local time, according to Mara Rodriguez, a public information officer with the department. She added that the crash site was located east of Interstate 15, near Halloran Springs Road.

It was learnt that the ill-fated Flight N130CZ, operated by Orbic Air LLC, took off from Palm Springs, California, at 8:45 pm but was last seen near Fort Irwin/Barstow, California, at 21:49 pm, Friday.

What exactly led to the crash of the Airbus Helicopters EC-130 remains unclear.

The National Transportation Safety Board (N.T.S.B.) and Federal Aviation Administration (F.A.A.) are investigating the crash. Representatives from the N.T.S.B. are expected to arrive at the scene on Saturday.
