An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday remanded a 56- year-old trader, Ahmed Adeyemi, in Kirikiri Correctional Centre for allegedly defiling an eight-year-old girl.

The police charged Adeyemi, who lives at 59, Ibukun Street, Surulere Lagos with defilement.

The Chief Magistrate, Bola Osunsanmi, did not take the plea of Adeyemi for want of jurisdiction.

She adjourned the case until April 24 for legal advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecution.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, ASP Raji Akeem told the court that the offence was committed in December 2023 at Adeyemi’s residence.

Akeem said that Adeyemi lives on the same street as the victim’s parents.

The prosecutor said that the suspect lured the girl into his house, defiled her and gave her N100 and warned her not to tell anyone.

The offence, the prosecutor said, contravened the provisions of Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
