In a remarkable turn of events, a driver escaped with his life after a 40-foot container fell off a truck and crushed his car in the Mile 2 area of Lagos on Monday morning.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed that responders at the scene successfully rescued the driver, who has been rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Adebayo Taofiq, LASTMA spokesperson, shared that the crushed Toyota Camry was removed from beneath the container, while ongoing efforts are being made to fully clear the site. Meanwhile, LASTMA officers have been actively managing traffic to restore normalcy in the area.

The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, commended the swift response of the rescue team and emphasized the importance of securing containers properly to prevent similar incidents. He urged truck drivers and owners to prioritize road safety to protect lives and property.

“LASTMA is committed to ensuring the safety and efficiency of Lagos roadways and will continue working with stakeholders to uphold traffic laws and enhance public safety,” Bakare-Oki stated.

The incident serves as a critical reminder of the need for strict adherence to road safety protocols, but the quick rescue and survival of the driver offer a glimmer of hope and gratitude amidst the chaos.
