The Warri Refining and Petrochemicals Company (WRPC), with a production capacity of 125,000 barrels per day, has resumed operations, signaling a significant step in Nigeria’s drive to revitalize its domestic refining capabilities.
Mele Kyari, the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), made the announcement during a visit to the facility on Monday.
While addressing the team during the tour, Kyari remarked, “This plant is running. Although it is not yet operating at 100 percent capacity, we are making steady progress in the process of full restoration.
“Many people doubt the feasibility of such achievements in our country. They often believe that real and tangible progress is unattainable. We want to demonstrate that this is real and achievable,” he added, emphasizing the government’s commitment to restoring the nation’s refining infrastructure.
This development comes shortly after the Port Harcourt refinery resumed operations.
