Three people rescued as one-storey building collapses in Lagos

A storey building under construction collapsed on Sunday at Ishaga Road, opposite Idi Araba Central Mosque, Mushin, Lagos.

Margaret Adeseye, director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services, confirmed the incident in a statement.

Adeseye said a distress call was received about 4:30 pm, to which officials from the Isolo fire station, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps, the Lagos State Ambulance Service, and the Nigeria Police responded.

Three male adults were rescued alive with varying degrees of injury. They were attended to at the scene before being transferred to the hospital for further treatment

The director said investigations into the cause of the collapse have commenced and that search and rescue operations are still ongoing.

In January, a two-storey building under construction collapsed in the Ikota, Lekki area of Lagos. Two adult males were confirmed dead.

In April, a three-storey building collapsed in the Ojodu-Berger area of the state. Thirteen people were rescued, while seven died.
