The Kano state police command says its operatives have arrested 41 suspects in connection with the killing of Baba Ali, divisional police officer (DPO) of Rano division.

Ali was killed on Sunday after hoodlums attacked Rano police station and set some parts of it ablaze, alongside two vehicles.

The attack followed the death of Abdullahi Musa, a motorcycle mechanic, who was arrested on Sunday evening after several complaints from the public alleging he rode around recklessly.

While in custody, Musa became weak and was rushed to Rano General Hospital, where he died the following morning.

In a statement issued on Thursday by Abdullahi Kiyawa, police spokesperson in Kano, the command described the killing as a “grave attack on the fabric of society” and vowed to ensure justice was served.

According to Kiyawa, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, the commissioner of police in Kano, assured residents of the command’s commitment to ensuring that all those involved in the incident are arrested and prosecuted.

“The police are working tirelessly to ensure that no stone is left unturned in apprehending all those involved in this dastardly act,” the statement reads.

While commending members of the public for their cooperation and condolences, the command urged residents to remain calm and continue supporting the ongoing investigation.

“The command honours the memory of CSP Baba Ali and commends the bravery of officers and men who risk their lives daily to keep our state safe,” Kiyawa added.

He also reiterated the command’s resolve to maintain law and order across the state and called on citizens to stand united against threats to peace and security.
