The All Progressives Congress (APC) has won the Ungogo and Kano municipal by-elections for the Kano state house of assembly.

The by-elections, held on Saturday, were conducted to fill two seats that became vacant after two lawmakers died hours apart in December 2025.

Both deceased legislators — members of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) — are the fathers of the winners of the by-elections.

In Ungogo constituency, Aminu Sa’ad, the APC candidate, secured 8,975 votes to win the election

In Kano municipal, Aliyu Nabil Daneji of the APC polled 7,484 votes to emerge victorious.

The three major opposition parties were absent from the ballot papers in the by-election.

The affected parties were the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the NNPP, and the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Abba Yusuf, governor of Kano, defected from the NNPP to join the APC earlier this year.

Yusuf said he switched camps to place Kano “in a position where it can fully participate in national development and secure a better future for its citizens”.
