Residents of Banana Island, Lagos, have been warned against engaging in indecent sexual acts in public recreational areas, with the estate management threatening offenders with a hefty fine of N3 million.
In a strongly worded notice titled “Urgent Conduct Warning Regarding All Public Centres,” the Banana Island Estate Management said it had received reports that both adults and minors were engaging in inappropriate sexual activities at the estate’s Recreation Centre and other public spaces.
The management described the behaviour as “completely unacceptable,” saying it not only violated public decency but had also resulted in significant damage to park seats and other facilities within the estate.
According to the notice, the warning extends to all public areas within the estate, including the Children’s Playground, Peace Garden and other recreational centres intended for family-friendly activities.
The management urged parents and guardians to counsel their children and wards, while also reminding adult residents to conduct themselves responsibly in shared public spaces.
It disclosed that security personnel had been placed on strict instructions to clamp down on offenders across the estate.
“Effective immediately, any individual caught engaging in such acts will face a heavy penalty of N3,000,000 (Three Million Naira),” the notice stated.
The management said the sanction was introduced to serve as a deterrent and to preserve the integrity of the estate’s communal facilities.
It appealed to residents to cooperate fully in ensuring that public recreational areas remain safe, decent and suitable for families.
